P201 (Sept .1):“The Elephant in the Room” – Surfacing the real issues in group dynamics
Presenter: Vinay Kumar, CPF
IAF Core Competencies: B,C,D
Number of participants: 10-30
Imagine a facilitator not achieving the desired objectives because the Elephant didn’t show up in the room. The “Elephant in the room” – A metaphor for an obvious problem or risk people are uncomfortable addressing. Managing group dynamics is a critical aspect of a Facilitator’s effectiveness. Designing a process that truly surfaces any issues of conflict that may exist in group dynamics is both a challenge as well as immensely satisfying when it helps groups achieve a strong desired outcome.
The workshop will explore different tools, processes and methods that a Facilitator can deploy to get the “elephant in the room” to show up in a productive way. We will explore the deeper skill sets required by the facilitator throughout the process of engagement to ensure that a safe environment is created. We will also look at the elements of the Enabler role that a facilitator would play in emotionally charged situations.
